Our Races

Tough Team Race

Due to factors beyond our control, we’re very sorry to announce that we are unable to host the much-loved Tough Team Race in 2026. We are hopeful that the event will return to the calendar in 2027.

Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Safety Advisory Group has advised that the race can now only take place with a full road closure across the entire route. This requirement has not been in place previously and, unfortunately, makes the event unviable for this year due to the significant costs involved, as well as the disruption it would cause to local businesses and residents.

Our priority now is to explore alternative routes and options for 2027. This will require considerable planning and effort from our dedicated team of volunteers, who work incredibly hard behind the scenes to deliver our events.

Please be assured that we will do everything we can over the coming year to bring Tough Team back in 2027.

All entrants for the 2026 event should have received a full refund.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

The Tattenhall Tough Team Race has been running for over 20 years and has become an institution in the Cheshire summer running calendar. It takes place on the Friday in June closest to the longest day and is a competitive, tough but fun multi-terrain race.

The race distance is approximately 9 miles and includes the infamous ‘railway’ or ‘stairway to hell’ as it is affectionately known. The race is for teams of three with the team achieving the time of the last finisher so teamwork as well as on and off road running are put to the test. Please note that the race now has an age restriction: The minimum age is 17, with written parental permission required for under-18s.

The race starts and finishes at Tattenhall Recreation Club with food and bar available after the race making the event a great opportunity for running clubs to enjoy both a competitive and social event together.

Llantysilio Fell Race

The 2026 race will be run on Saturday 14th March

Set in the picturesque Dee Valley, the race is just over 6 miles in length with 2100ft of ascent. It follows a route up to and along the Llantysilio Mountain ridge, with a final climb up to the highest point which is Moel y Gamelin at 1893ft.

Safety and Equipment

Runners should arrive and be prepared to carry whole body waterproof cover, hat and gloves, whistle. Although the race is well marshalled, and with a ‘sweeper’, much of the race is around 1500ft, climbing to 2000ft. At these altitudes in March, the weather can be extreme. The greatest need for clothing is not for running but when you are forced to stop or slow, and/or require assistance. The race director will specify minimum clothing requirements on the day.  For further information please go to:
